Vagabund Brauerei not only wants to make beer for people to drink, but we also want to get people involved in the beer making process. That's why we offer brew courses to beginners, who want to have a better handle on how beer is made. The beginner's course is also good for homebrewers who want to have a look at what goes into brewing on a small industrial sized brew system. 

A course consists of up to 5 people. We get started at 10:30 and go until 16:00. The course includes coffee, beers, snacks, lunch, and a free glass of the finished beer once the beer is ready to be served. Participation costs €125 (including tax) per person. The course consists of the following components and time frames:

10:30 – 11:00: Welcome (coffee and a roll)

11:00 – 11:30: Malt explanation and grinding

11:30 – 11:40: Mash-in (watch and learn)

11:40 – 11:55: Explanation of water in the brewing process

11:55 – 12:15 Introduction to basic brewing

12:15 – 12:25: Sparge start

12:25 – 13:10: Tour of the brewery

13:10 – 13:45: Measuring out hops (hop talk)

13:45 – Boil Start

13:45 – 14:45: Lunch and beer tasting (boil explanation and hop additions)

14:45 –14:55 – Measurements

14:55 – Cooling Start

14:55 – 15:00: -Difference between homebrewing and commercial brewing

15:20 – 15:55: Yeast explanation and microscope viewing

15:55 – 16:00: Q & A: Conclusion, Thank You's

IMPORTANT INFO: Please be aware that it gets very hot in the brewery. Despite this fact, we do ask you to wear pants as well as closed-toe shoes. You should also bring an extra set of clothes with you to change into after the brew day, just in case your work clothes get dirty or wet. That's what we do when we brew, and that's what you should do too. Thanks!
